Employer Responsibilities: Preparing a Safe Worksite
To support a safe and successful job, employers should take the following steps:
Provide Required Tools and Equipment
Workers arrive with basic personal protective equipment, such as work boots, safety eyewear, masks, and gloves. However, employers must supply any additional tools or job-specific safety equipment needed, including items like:
Shovels and digging tools
Wheelbarrows or hauling equipment
Specialized machinery or rental tools
Plan Ahead Before Work Begins
Before the job starts, it is important to think through the full project, including:
Job preparation
Work tasks and timeline
Cleanup and disposal
Transportation of materials
Whether special tools or equipment will be required
Planning ahead helps avoid delays and reduces safety risks.
Check for Underground Utilities When Digging or Demolition Is Involved
For projects that involve digging, demolition, or ground disturbance, employers should confirm the location of underground utility lines before work begins.
Utilities may include:
Electrical lines
Gas lines
Water or sewer pipes
If you are unsure, contact your local utility service (such as calling 811) for a free utility marking survey.
Additional Protective Equipment May Be Needed
Some jobs may require extra protective gear, such as:
Leather gloves for heavy-duty work or power tool use
Hearing protection when working with loud machinery
Knee pads for tasks that require working on the ground
OSHA-Aligned Safety Practices
Our workers are trained to follow workplace safety standards, including:
Using protective equipment properly
Ensuring tools and machinery are safe and functional
Using ergonomic lifting and positioning techniques
Checking the work area for hazards and removing obstacles that could cause accidents
